Anaheim Ducks Founding
In 1992, The Mighty Ducks movie premiered. This heartwarming Disney film focused on a youth hockey team who transformed into hockey champions.
In 1993, inspired by the cinema, The Walt Disney Company founded the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. The Walt Disney Company paid $50 million to establish the franchise. Half of that hefty fee went to the Los Angeles Kings as compensation for sharing the Los Angeles market.
The new team played in a brand new arena near Disneyland. At the time, the arena was called the Anaheim Arena. It's now known as the Honda Center. During their first season, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim won a record-breaking number of wins. The team sold out the last 25 of their home games. Ducks merchandise sold more items than any other NHL club.
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim 2003 Western Conference Champions
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim won the Western Conference for the 2002-2003 season and made it to the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals. While Jean-Sebastien Giguere played an incredible game and won MVP, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim lost to the New Jersey Devils.
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim Sale
In 2005, The Walt Disney Company sold the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to Henry and Susan Samueli. The new owners shortened the team's name to the Anaheim Ducks. The team also debuted new colors and a new look.
Anaheim Ducks 2007 Stanley Cup Champions
During the 2006-2007 season, the Anaheim Ducks set an NHL record by remaining undefeated during the season's first 16 games. Their season record was 12-0-4. The Ducks ended the 2006-2007 season with 110 points.
The Anaheim Ducks won the Western Conference Finals and went on to win the Stanley Cup at the Honda Center. The Ducks were the first California team to win the coveted Stanley Cup.
Record-Breaking 2013-2014 Season
During the 2013-2014 season, the Ducks earned a 20-0-2 record. They ended that season with a franchise-best 54-20-8 score and 116 points. During the 2014 Western Conference semifinals, the Ducks played against their rivals, the Los Angeles Kings.
2016-2017 Records
The Ducks had another franchise record when they played an 11 game winning streak in 2016. The Ducks played in the Western Conference Finals in 2017.
Anaheim Ducks Mascot
Wild Wing has been the team's mascot since its founding. Wild Wing is a duck and wears a Ducks jersey with the number 93, referencing the team's founding.
Wild Wing often "flies in" from the rafters to the delight of fans.
January 2022 Honda Center Games
